PlayStation vs Xbox Series X: Which One Takes the Cake?

Whenever it comes to console gaming, only two major console names come to mind: PlayStation and Xbox.

Both of these consoles have been in head-to-head competition for as long as we can remember. When it comes to preference, there are distinct features between the two that set them apart. In some cases, PlayStation takes the lead while in other cases, Xbox does.

If I were to tell you my own preference, I’ve always been a loyal fan of PlayStation. This is why in this article; I’m taking the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X into account and see which one emerges as the victor. Let’s get started:

Online Gaming

You can’t have the complete gaming experience until you try online gaming for once. While solo campaigns in games are fun, you can take things up a notch if you play online with people from all over the world, be it on a PS5 or an Xbox Series X. That is of course possible when either of these consoles is connected to a reliable internet service. Plus, it can also minimize lag as you play your game. I’ve been gaming online for a while and to be honest, the Xfinity internet speed has never disappointed.

When comparing online gaming on both the consoles, I can tell you this, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are poles apart. Personally, the PlayStation 5 definitely takes the lead. The gaming experience is so seamless and smooth, that it sweeps me off my feet every time! Plus, the online community on the PlayStation 5 is far bigger than that of the Xbox Series X. Especially for PlayStation-exclusive games such as Red Dead Online.

The Pulse 3D Headphones

If you have a PS5, then having the Pulse 3D Headphones with it is a must. While they might seem like ordinary headphones, they make your gaming experience so immersive that if you close your eyes, it feels like you are actually in the game!

I experienced this when I played Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for the first time and had to parry enemy attacks. The game plays a distinct sound right before you can parry as Peter and Miles, and having the headphones made the experience so much easier. Not just that, even the “thwip” sound when you shoot webs sounds super realistic on the headphones!

The Specs

If there’s one thing that creates a close call between the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5, then it’s definitely the specs.

Both of the consoles have backwards compatibility, meaning you can play your old PS4 games on your PS5 or all Xbox One and a few Xbox 360 games on the Series X.

However, the difference lies in the CPU, where the PlayStation 5 comes packed with an 8-core 3.5 GHz AMD Zen 2 and the Series X has an 8-core 3.8 GHz Zen 2. Not only that, but the PS5 has a 10.3 teraflop AMD RDNA 2 while the Series X has a 12.0 teraflop AMD RDNA 2.

Both the PS5 Slim and the Series X come with a 1TB internal storage SSD, giving you not just high storage space but also giving you lightning-fast processing speeds. One thing that you should note is that the Series X has an NVMe SSD while the PS5 has a regular, custom one.

Here, you can see that the Xbox Series X takes the lead, but just by a hair.

The Game Libraries

Buying a console primarily means playing games on it, right? What’s the point of getting a console if it doesn’t have games that are engaging enough for you to play?

Even though both the PS5 and the Series X have amazing libraries, it is only natural for one to have a library that is better than the other. Let’s look at a couple of exclusives on both of the consoles.

For the PlayStation 5, I’ll start off with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. I played the game and I was blown away. I really don’t want to post any spoilers but even the first boss fight in the game was brilliant enough to show how amazing the rest of the game is. For other exclusives, we have Horizon: Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok

On the Xbox, we’re just limited to a few titles such as Halo Infinite, Forza Motorsport, and Starfield. In this case, the PS5 takes the cake.

The Key Takeaway

It’s a pretty close call, but the PS5 takes the honor here. While the Xbox definitely has better specs, the PS5 has amazing accessories, a greater game library, and easier online gameplay as compared to the Xbox Series X.
